Certainly when we are mathematically doomed to go down.
It's a corporate money spinner when things are going well/averagely but in a dreadful season no-one wants to be associated with it. Players or businesses.

It may be very low key, but I would be very surprised if it's cancelled.

I believe it's written into the sponsorship deals that companies will have exposure at it.

Using the "no news is bad news" approach, companies will want to show the local community that they support the club

Five years ago when we were in this exact same position we cancelled it. I don't think the businesses would give two hoots about player of the season or not I guess like 98% of them are not even at the games to support the players they just use it as a place to schmooz. Plus I don't think they get tickets free with their sponsorship so who cares really if it is on or not.
