I don’t blame him - the most gifted player in the team, one of the most gifted in the league and he’s essentially being asked to be a target man because he happens to be big. should be the lynchpin of the team in central midfield.

Not sure he's mobile enough. I like him in the 10 slot.

When he's up for it. (Not like Plymouth at home)

Both of these. He's not a CM as he doesn't offer enough defensively and lacks the mobility to regularly drive forward from midfield to hurt teams enough. So he needs to star farther up the pitch but ideally not as a target man. His best position is a number 10, not least because he's a luxury player due to his inconsistency. It's that inconsistency and dodgy temperament (as well as injuries) that's the reason why he's at league one level. He's got the technical ability and physique to perform well at a higher level, but he needs to improve his attitude and his desire to get the most out of his ability. Less talented attacking players are plying their trade in the PL and championship, mainly because they have better attitudes and consistency.

not really buying that there’s much wrong with his attitude to be honest. and I think arguments that centre around midfielders either needing to be able to defend or drive forward (both physical, rather than technical traits) are a large part of the reason why we’re playing such dull football this season - there’s no craft and creativity in there.

of course you need balance but chuks and gilbey ahead of cisse would give you that imo.

I do feel that Chuks hasn't been his usual effective self of late, he's been good but not on fire, that could presumably be a symptom of him not being fully engaged and aligned with the boss.

He had a monster against Peterborough, literally 2 weeks ago.

fair enough. I quite like the setup man city (and liverpool) use with de bruyne and silva as not-quite-no.-10s.

He put himself about against AFC too, it just didn’t happen for him.

Yeah, I wonder how many more of our opponents will mysteriously clutch their face every time he takes down the ball.
