Thoughts on how he is currently getting on?

Sad to see him go. He seemed to improve considerably from that first pre-season game. I'd have happily have had him stick around as number two. At League Two level he probably wasn't far off being a contender for the number one spot.

Hope he finds a club at a reasonable level.

Also - I didn't know he was in the same age group/reserve team at River Plate as Julian Alvarez...

I drunkenly bought an Argentina flag after the AFC game and he spotted at Portsmouth and came over for a photo with me. Seemed a very nice chap but without that Russ connection I always felt we wouldn't see him around long. Best of luck to him

Just because his contract is up, doesn't necessarily mean he won't re-sign. I guess that depends on the new nanager that comes in. Agree that as a League 2 backup we could do a lot, lot worse.

As Dad_Of_A_Don says, it doesn't mean he won't sign a new deal. A new coach coming in might want to keep him around etc.

I have to say it doesn't make sense letting him go. Presumably his wages were at the lower end and considering we'll probably need two keepers now it makes sense for him (or Dave Martin) to stay.

It’s very possible that Franco wants to go elsewhere and be a No.1.

Also, with Dave Martin also leaving, we’ll presumably have a new GK coach soon, who will have his own contacts and opinions. It makes sense to clear that area of the squad (apart from Sandford) and allow the new coaching team to decide.
