Stuart James (@stujames75 on Twitter) of the Athletic:

'Updated Swansea story: the other candidate Swansea are considering for head coach is Russell Martin, the MK Dons manager.
Any move for Martin, who has won admiration for playing an attractive brand of football, would require Swansea to pay compensation.'

He's a very reliable source.

If we lost Russ this close to the season starting I think we would be allowed to bed wet.

However, I don't think we will. I think Russ is invested in the 'process' and he strikes me as the type of person who will recognise the faith Pete and co have put in him (including significant investment in the players Russ wanted) and in turn want to stick with the club for a little while longer. Add to the fact he travels from the Brighton area (I think?) and isn't up for relocating his family I don't see Swansea having enough of a pull at this time. Different story is say if Norwich came calling....

It's a bit of a test of his words so should be interesting.

Got to say though, if an Assistant Manager in John Eustace didn't fancy it, I wonder why someone in a manager's job would.

Sounds like Swansea have had a bit of a fire sale and selling Grimes is what made Cooper jump, so looks a poisioned chalice at the moment.

Yeah, I think it's unlikely.

Nobody seems willing to touch Swansea with a bargepole at the moment.

They're also notoriously tight so I can't see them stumping up the compo for Russ and Luke Williams (realistically you'd want both).

I noticed Russ is 2nd Favourite for this job and John Terry who who quit his assistant job at Villa today is also fancied, wasn't Luke Williams linked last year with an assistant job with Terry?.

They’re allergic to paying compensation by the sounds of it so I’m of the opinion it’s simply paper talk. He’ll be on many a chairman’s wish list.

Certainly think we'll need to get used to this now, as we did with Robbo.

That said, Robbo at least had us Play-off bound before that interest, not 13th!

Currently 7/4 with SkyBet, second favourite. Was 25/1 a couple of days ago.

He dropped as low as 8/1 yesterday when the BBC article came out suggesting his name. Then climbed again, now this low thanks to the Athletic article.

All that only lasts so long. He's set the ground work and established himself as a manager, proving that not only does he have the credentials but he's better than the established predecessor.

Unless we make inroads to Championship promotion pushes I don't think we'll be seeing another Robinson style long haul. I think he's loyal, but if another club came calling and we were say mid table 11 points off a playoff place you can't begrudge him that chance especially when at a club that despite offering support, doesn't offer great amount of onfield stability.
