Leaving aside the hysteria, bedwetting & gnashing of teeth elsewhere on TCR, here are the updated relevant stats.
Over the last 6/7 league games (four games played last weekend), the current bottom half clubs have secured the following number of points:
13. Plymouth: 15pts - were 22nd... (P7) = 2.14ppg
14. Gillingham: 14pts - were 21st... (P6) = 2.33ppg
15. Walsall: 5pts - were 11th...(P6) = 0.83ppg
16. Blackpool: 6pts - were 13th (P7) = 0.86ppg
17. Bristol R: 6pts - were 15th (P6) = 1.0 ppg
18. Southend: 3pts - were 12th... (P7) = 0.43ppg
19. MK Dons: 5pts - were 17th (P6) = 0.83ppg
20. Oldham: 3pts - were 16th... (P7) = 0.43ppg
-----------------------------------------
21. Cobblers: 10pts - were 23rd... (P7) = 1.43ppg
22. AFC: 8pts - were 20th (p6) = 1.33ppg
23. Rochdale: 2pts - were 19th... (P6) = 0.33ppg
24. Bury: 0pts - still 24th (P7) = 0.0 ppg
Gillingham & Plymouth have averaged an automatic-promotion-like 2+ pts per game, to climb out & away from the relegation zone.
Cobblers have averaged an impressive 1.4pts per game.
AFC have averaged a solid upper mid-table-like 1.3 pts per game.
Walsall, Blackpool, Bristol & MK Dons have averaged a relegation-struggle-like 0.8-1.0 pts per game.
Bury, Rochdale, Oldham & Southend have averaged an even worse automatic-relegation-like 0 to 0.4pts per game.
If things continued on like this, Oldham & Southend would drop into the relegation zone to join Rochdale & Bury.
Southend however, have sacked their manager this week.
"This season, to date, has been a disappointment" said the club, after suffering seven defeats in their past eight League One matches, and sliding towards the relegation zone.
Will Southend benefit from the "new-manager boost" over the next ten games or so, as often happens? Time will tell.
Whatever happens, it makes the Cobblers game an even more important "must not lose" game.
COYD!
Great stuff! I agree, Southend changing their manager is a worry and a win at the wobblers is crucial.
