Watching the stop/start game yesterday with the ref blowing for every little 'foul', got me thinking to what extent football is even a contact sport anymore? Does that matter?

And another thing - all football games due to be played today in the snow would definitely have been played thirty years ago, with the help, of course, of the infamous orange ball!

And another thing - it's not just football that ain't what it used to be:-

Only if it had stopped snowing and they were able to clear the lines.

Football in the snow is shit. Sorry. Unpopular millennial opinion but it is. Tough guys etc good for them. But I’d rather not watch football on a snowy pitch.

Why is less physical contact in the modern game a bad thing. Protect the skilful players and you get a much better spectacle.

Technology in football pitches, has thankfully given us a decent playing surface year round.

Unlike the Farmer Giles ploughed fields of yesteryear.

I remember back in January 1979, watching Nottingham Forest v Arsenal, two very talented teams at that time, reduced to hoofing the ball out of thick mud, the ball wouldn’t roll or bounce on a surface resembling treacle, without a blade of grass in sight.

The later generations of footballers are indeed able to display more skill and ability, than back in the mud ages.....
