I’d genuinely be surprised if we took 20,000 fans.

Plus no I don’t think it’d help us any more if we won it or lost it or didn’t even make the final. Nobody watches the competition. Nobody cares except the team who wins it. Even Coventry fans were brought back down to Earth the week after winning it last time out when it changed their season not one bit and were subsequently relegated back in front of their average crowds.

Nobody cares. Yeah it’ll be a laugh but it’d be remarkable some of us would call it a successful season (and believe me I’ve seen some saying that) if we won it.

When in the situation we apparently are in, no prize money is irrelevant. The Premier League has added additional money to allow their underage teams to play and the prize money for this competition is now greater than it has ever been.

I can’t temember exactly how much prize money there is but literally the prize money is about absolutely pointless and would help us in no way whatsoever it’s that small

This is how the prize money was distributed for last season from a £1,950.000 kitty. This season the kitty has been raised to £3m. and we earned £20k for topping our group but I don't know how much we got for winning/drawing each game. However, with a competition increase over more than £1m it has to be much more than for last season. Each club also gets 45% of match receipts.

Round Prize Money Total

Group Stages £10,000 per win £5,000 per draw = £960,000
Round Two £20,000 per win = £320,000
Round Three £40,000 per win = £320,000
Round Four £50,000 per win = £200,000
Runners Up £50,000
Winners £100,000
Total £1,950,000

As I said before, hardly irrelevant!.

Not true alby. I know a lot of cov fans who went to Wembley knowing full well they were going down. They were just too young to go to Wembley in 87 and will probably not get another chance unless they get to the play offs.

It was their ray of sunshine. Hell they were not expecting to beat oxford. They just wanted to enjoy the experience. If we can get to Wembley and maybe win it will be the shining light in a piss poor season so far. I am not say successful just better than not winning it.

Would I say no to winning it? Obviously not, a trophy is a trophy and it’d be a good day out and memory whether we lost or won (Well. You can’t say it wouldn’t hurt or whatever before we know what happens) and it’s be a good occasion for many you g players and fans. Like myself. A 12 year old when we won at Wembley. At the time it was the best day of my life.

But things have changed. I truly believe that if any one in League One especially wanted to win that cup from the start of the season, and I mean set the goal to win it they’d win it. It’s not a good competition. It’s be embarrassing to celebrate a win at Wembley against Leicester’s U21s. This competition was fine how it was and I even defended it on here when others mocked it. I just find the current set up awful and it’s hard to get excited for a tie against under 21 sides.

That's split between 48 clubs at the beginning though. Under £2m between 48 clubs is pants.

So if we win the whole thing, having played 8 matches, we'll make about as much money as we did from the one game against Man Utd, or from selling Carruthers. Doesn't seem worth it.

But we'd have won a trophy at Wembley, only the 2nd cup in our history (and very unlikely to win any bigger cup). Since when was money the only thing some fans were interested in? And since when was over £100,000 small fry to the lower league clubs?

To be honest, any excuse to go to Wembley and have a few beers in the area is fine with me.

3rd trophy. (4th if you count the 2nd place pointless trophy for coming 2nd in league one) League 2 winner JPT winners and Checkatrade Trophy winners 2018 ;)

Plus it is more than just £100,000 if we win the thing. Surely it would be £250k ish if we won the whole thing? You get £100k just for winning it.

Wasn’t the original point how much prize money we’d earn by winning it? It’s upwards of 200,000, not £2m/48.

Add total gate receipts net of match costs, and it’s half a million. And what price would one put on another willy-waving entry in the trophies won list?
