APL PREDICTION LEAGUE RESULTS & REVIEW – OLDHAM I’m not sure about what happened today as we lurched from the brilliant to the atrocious and seamlessly at that. The defending in the first half was just plain dreadful, even amateurish at times, yet I can’t deny I loved the clear majority of it, and if every game had that type of drama every week, I think the attendances would go north of 10K. I can’t say what went wrong at the back today with any surety, but to me nobody really asserted any authority, they were constantly beaten in the air, and I’m sorry to say I thought Brittain was poor, giving their left winger so much space. I take my hat off to Oldham, in spells they looked like world beaters, and you can easily see why in recent weeks they have beaten Posh, Pompey, Blackburn and drawn with Bradford and they are going to be a team I’m going to look out for on the fixed odds coupon in the coming weeks. Their first goal was a thing of beauty, one touches, they attacked at pace and ripped us apart, and I’m not ashamed to admit I clapped my appreciation. In honesty I’m struggling for a MOTM but possibly Upson edged it for the free kick alone, and he was also on hand to stab the ball home after Seager had rattled the bar. One thing that was glaringly obvious was Agard, who seems to be going through a really bad patch, and the introduction of Harry B and Rab, and to some degree Seager changed the game, Harry in particular giving their defence a torrid time, and in honesty I would give Harry or Seager the nod ahead of him in our next game against Bristol Rovers. That’s it really, it’s a job to make much sense out of that, but as I’ve said I enjoyed it for the first time in weeks, so that must be good.... right? Final word for the fans, as normal I left my lofty perch for the 2nd half, and the atmos especially in the last 15 minutes was brilliant, I also thought it very amusing that the Oldham fans sat in silence hardly daring to breath, after 70 minutes of unwavering support. And the final, final word, well done to the lino on the Club Red side and I guess the ref that allowed his assistants to help him, very refreshing to see them working as a team. Ok......APL time, well we seem to suddenly have lost 12 predictors in the space of a week, in the low 50’s for the Pompey game we only just struggled to make 40 for this game......come on folks we are only just about a quarter of the way through the season, surely with 100’s of points still available until next May, you’re not giving up already are you? Just six people managed to get amongst the points, Scribble, DonsDuck, & WellDon selected Gilbey to get the opener for the Dons and get 10 POINTS, but Nobbydon managed to link that up with a draw and gets an additional two points, as you would expect nobody had 4-4 but a couple of others did predict a draw and they also get two points. So there has been a bit of movement in the table, Nobbydon leaps into joint 3rd, and Scribble into 4th, the top two remain the same. Just 46 points scored for this game. The APL thread for Bristol Rovers will be out Sunday morning.... go on, make a prediction. See you at Bristol.
