Totally agree, the manager sets the tactics, and each player should know what he needs to do. If he needs another player on the pitch to drive him on and give him a will to win, then he doesn't deserve to be on the pitch in the first place.

The captain s needed to shout heads or tails

The last and current managers must agree with you as we haven't had an effective captain for years - leadership is one thing we have been sadly lacking for a long time.

How do you know Lewington isn't an effective captain?

Only from what I see and hear (or don't see and hear) on the pitch. Lewie seems to think his sole responsibilities are to question every refereeing decision that goes against us. We never see him trying to gee-up the crowd, giving other players directions, bollockings or a pat on the back as justified. In fact I have already seen Cisse do more "captaincy" in his short time with us.

However, Lewie is our senior player and deserves and commands respect for what he does off the field of play. He should have been appointed Club Captain years ago and A.N. Other appointed as Team Captain.

Think we should just name a stand after him, make him player-coach (as second/third in command behind a first team manager) and get either Gilbey or Williams as new permanent club captain.

I though of a bronze statue by the Koi Carp pond. Made by the same numpty that made that horrible Ronaldo statue.

We could buy Fulham's old Michael Jackson statue and paint the hair orange. :D

Don't know why the club haven't done something like this tbh. It has to be the away end that gets Lewie's name like you say, would ruffle a few feathers. If AFC had such a loyal, long-serving player as Lewie they would have named their away end after them just to spite us.
