THE APL PREDICTION LEAGUE RESULTS –
ROCHDALEWell for those of you that never made the long-haul journey to Rochdale you missed a real treat, as the Willbutts Lane Chippy was on top form. I had the beef & vegetable pie and chips option, washed down with a fat coke, and I can report its as good as usual and can still claim the away day chippy of the year but sadly, that’s where the fun stopped and it all went downhill after that.
The journey up was a piece of cake with northern schools still on half term, and my usual parking space was still available outside the cemetery. Inside the ground our stand occupied by hordes of Spurs fans only days earlier, was embarrassingly empty, with well under 100 travelling fans, and I salute everyone that made the effort, although I did note there were a few that were working in the area, so it could have been considerably less.
The game was of a similar pattern as many we’ve seen this season, and as usual we did our best to give the opposition the lead with Scott Wootton slicing a clearance onto our bar, and not long after another shot rattled the bar/post, and in truth should have sent Dale in at halftime with the lead, and yes, they possibly did deserve something on the balance of play.
The second half wasn’t much better, and if I was the Dale manager I would want to know why they are playing so bad, especially given the evidence of Sunday’s FA Cup draw with Spurs.
We created little of quality, with just one clear chance falling to Agard, and again he possibly should have done better hitting it straight at the keeper. That was about it really, nothing much else to report other than this was two poor teams who both look destined for League 2 football next season.
We showed no great desire to win the game, and with as much as 30 minutes left on the clock, I felt we had settled for a draw and were not so much wasting time, but in no great hurry either, and I’m afraid that’s the state of affairs, we are happy to take a point at Rochdale, and I guess that sums up what we have been all about since August.
Nobody really stood out, Lewington, Ward and Tymon possibly were the best of an average bunch, the remainder while doing nothing particularly outstanding, will probably be better remembered at being outstanding for doing nothing much at all.
Looking at the APL a healthy 41 predictions midweek is nothing to be sneezed at, although nobody managed to predict the 0-0 scoreline.
8 people predicted a goal shy Dons and get 5 points each, 6 others predicted a draw and get 2 points, there were just 52 points scored for this game.
