Who’s the sixth?

In fact, we played three centre backs and wing backs, I’d say who were the fourth and fifth? ;)

  very true. People see what they want to see, I guess.

Post of the year!

I’d love to know what you made of Portsmouth’s no’ 9 that lined up at centre half against us the other week, but played as a centre forward when facing us at Fratton Park? He’s spent all season splitting his duties between the two roles. Must be a nightmare for t(e opposition manager to deal with tactically.

I take it all back, things were better under Neilson.

One shot on target for a team desperately in need of points..... it a total embarrassment.

We deserve to go down.
But we were away (to the club second bottom of the league)

They were bottom until they played us.

But a point is a point. Another 19 draws against bottom of the table teams and we’ll hit the magical 50 point mark.

Genuine lol...

There actually have been a fair number of players who've combined target man and central defender roles. John Charles did it as an international for Wales for example.

3+2+2 = 7. Some people were saying we didn't have 7 defenders on at the end. They can't do hard sums, obviously! And, considering we had no shots at all in the second half, they must have been playing pretty defensively and all! :D

So using your example, if John Charles played up front did his team have an extra defender.

Cisse and Brittain played in midfield.

Our formation was 3-4-2-1

If you count Cisse then yes, you are correct, we had 7 defenders on the field by the end.

As I said, no shots at all in the second half and one all match. If they were playing in midfield they certainly weren't creating any threat, were they? However you describe what they were doing it didn't work very well, did it? Even the radio commentators referred to seven defenders being on.

If you have seven players who are basically defenders (and Cisse plays at DC for his country) on at the same time, you're likely to have a defensive mindset, surely? If you are going for a win, which we needed desperately, it seems a curious approach to me.

Why curious? We had lost five in a row and we were playing away from home.

In reality, we had so many players out, we had few other options.
