The best seasons we've ever had, were in 2007-2009.
We won a league, a cup, and equalled the all-time record for the most away wins in any league season.
After years of bottling league playoff semi's & finishing outside them with Robinson at the controls, we finally won one fluke last-game promotion, when tens of millions of pounds worth of talent were finally on the pitch at the same time in order to execute Plan A competently.
All we gained therafter were some disastrous summer sigings, the record for the worst ever MK Dons season, worst ever MK Dons season at home (even worse than the previous relegation/struggle seasons) and MK Dons longest ever run without a home win in the league.
Love him or hate him, Warnock did a great job saving Rotherham from Championship relegation with their
same inherited squad at our expense, while we capitulated to an entirely avoidable and unnecessary relegation under Robinson.
Warnock at Rotherham March-May 2016:
20 pointsRobinson at MK Dons March-May 2016:
7 points...It was a clueless capitulation, with Robinson accepting defeat long before relegation was unavoidable, spiralling down with Robinson asleep at the controls.
Any half-decent manager could have got more out of that squad.
We'd already be in League 2 now, if Robinson hadn't finally been sacked, albeit some 6-9 months later than required, last season.
We
were going down to L2 with Robinson last season.
The 8 League 1 home games under Robinson last season:
3pts: W0 D3 L5 F7 A16 GD-9Robinson Oct 2016: "Our performances have been excellent at home"
Any half-decent manager could have got more out of that squad.
He
had to go.
Neilson's debut home league 1-0 win against AFC Wimbledon was our
first home league win since early March 2016, in 16 league games under Robinson...
First 8 League 1 home games under Neilson last season:
16pts: W5 D1 L2 F13 A9 GD+4With the
same squad.
And not just at home - a similarly distinct turnaround occurred in all games home & away: wins, defeats, goals scored, goals conceded, goal difference, points, league table position, points per game & form:
Robinson final 8 league games:
P8 W2 D2 L4 F11 A13 GD-2 Pts8 - dropped from 15th to 19th - 1.0ppg - relegation form...Neilson first 8 league games with the
same squad:
P8 W4 D2 L2 F14 A8 GD+6 Pts14 - climbed from 19th to 15th - 1.75ppg - playoffs form...Even
Neilson could turn it around from where we were heading with Robinson, and we finished top half last season instead of down in League 2.
Some people do appear to have selective memories/goldfish memories/rose tinted memories on just how poor our results were in reality, especially at home, in the final 14 months of Robinson.
Bring
him home?
Bring RDM or Ince home first, and we all know how Ince part 2 ended up, but even
Neilson was an improvement on Robinson...
