The pitch played a part in that there is no denying, but it was the same for both teams. We were abysmal.

Did we even have an attempt on goal in the second half? Misplaced passes, poor defending. Wootton and EEL are just terrible defenders, couldn't cope with their striker.

Apart from one or two, none of the players looked up for it. First half we had a few minutes where we played some nice stuff I suppose, but the second half was pathetic.

I'm struggling to think of anything positive.

So just to confirm, 'the football' hasn't returned?

No efforts in the 2nd half. Completely unacceptable.

Can confirm, football has not returned as yet.

(although even the one or two minutes in the first half where we looked okay, was better than anything we played under Neilson).

I worry from some comments that as long as what we see is marginally better than under RN then we've exceeded an all important threshold and it is good enough.

Better to watch than beating Peatboghorror 4-0 in their own shithole of a back yard under Neilson?
Or beating Peatboghorror when we had only nine men?
Several games under Neilson, for various reasons, were far better to watch than the ineffective bilge served up last night.
IMHO... ;)

This. Even the Oldham game at home, coming back late from 2-4 down to 4-4.

Did it really make sense to ask players to play it short out from the back on a muddy, bumpy pitch? It's asking for trouble, seems to me. And unless people suggest that we should get the garden rollers out and sort the pitches we play on before we set foot on them just maybe it would be sensible to adapt our play to the conditions??? Or is the notion of changing the approach too outrageous?

What else should we do? Pump it long continuously going against the work they’ve put in the past few weeks with link up play and understanding between players? We’d be complaining if we’d punped it long too. Like we have done all season. I seriously don’t get what some of us want.

That's not a reasonable approach. People need to stop thinking that there's only one 'good' style. The style you adopt OUGHT to depend on the circumstances, whether it's the calibre of the opposition or the state of the pitch. Much of Robinson's problem was that he couldn't adapt. A good manager will be flexible!

In general it makes sense to play longer if the pitch is crap. That's not exactly revolutionary, it's been known for a very long time.

I know what I want. For us to win a match for a change!!
