Im not convinced style of play has a lot to do with winning in the end. I think that playing the way you need to in order to beat the opponents in front of you is all that matter. Some of the greatest teams ever assembled had the ability to play the pretty stuff but also do the ugly stuff when it was needed. Think Liverpool in the 70's and 80's, Utd in the 90's and 00's and in the last 10 years Barca. In my opinion, rose tinted specs are often employed when recalling the exploits of those teams, Barca in particular. They had an extraordinarily high workrate and roughed it up when needed.

For me, our issues stem from low confidence leading to a higher percentage of mistakes than we would like to see and a lack of a natural goal scorer.

At this level, I believe more than ever that the game is about who makes the fewest mistakes and right now, that isnt us

What DM has brought though is football that is more enjoyable to watch and hopefully more enjoyable to play. With that comes confidence and with confidence comes fewer mistakes. Hopefully anyway!

Good post.

This.

I agree with most what you said Camden but he’s hardly gonna walk in and say “I don’t rate x player, or z player” and then have to play him is he? He barely had a week to bring players in when he doesn’t know what he’s working with already. Kinda has to rely on the players he has so has to praise them.

Point taken, but equally he could have just said nothing.

As I’ve said before, I think Neilson has left us with some decent players. That he didn’t know how to get the best out of them is his failing, not theirs, IMHO.

I’m agreed with that. I do feel he will eventually get a tune out of them. They all look like they’re happy and enjoying their football so it’s a plus. Results tend to follow good performances. But he’s now in a position where he has to turn results into wins.

We have good players, even Muirhead who’s had big question marks over since arriving looked the part at Walsall and was surprised not to see him play against Portsmouth to be honest.
I think a strong XI with Aneke will see us score goals and I genuinely feel a 2/3-0 win isn’t far away.

Four losses in a row. Do we get a bonus mark  ?

One goal in four games says it all. Yet we persist in playing only one central striker and don't start the two decent young wingers we have available.

Match stats: Shots: Oldham 11 Dons 5. SOT Oldham 2 Dons 1. The commentators on 3 Counties believed that we outplayed Oldham in the first half. The stats say that we didn't.

The purpose of the thread wasn't to belittle or blame DM for our predicament or recent form as some seemed to assume. Just saying he has bugger all experience or know how to get us out of trouble. And anyone who thinks league 2 is a breeze should think again.

How can people say there is genuine improvement?

The results are what matters and no wins (or draws) in 4 games is poor!

Don't think I've ever known a club not have a "bounce" when a new manager takes over, even if only for one or two games. Four straight losses, and performances that appear to be getting worse, must be a first!

I can't see us getting any points after March - the run in is too hard. We are SCREWED

1/ Lack of investment + 2/ Shocking recruitment decisions = 3/ Pete Winkelman
