Post subject:  The Walsall experience

Just wanted to go on record by saying I thought Walsall do their best to welcome away fans. What is the best way to foster a good atmosphere and minimise any nonsense between fans ? By inviting away fans into your social club by your stadium and treating them well. The Saddlers Club is very much a "rough and ready old school" venue, but I think it is just the thing football fans love....cheap food, drinks and not over-crowded but rather having many tables to sit and chat with your pals. The only downside was that the screen in the main hall was not working on Saturday, so we could not watch Burnley v City - the chap on the door said it usually is but was broken at the moment.

The stewards in the ground seemed pretty relaxed too.

In contrast to other clubs, I did not feel any animosity at all against Walsall...afterall, who dislikes them ? Other than local rivals such as Shrewsbury, and some teams in Birmingham. There was not much chanting between their fans and ours either.

So, hated the result, but enjoyed the Walsall experience. Good on them.

Warwickdons will beg to differ. One highly strung steward took offence to him joking around. Apparently the chief steward has received numerous complaints about him.

First time this has ever happened. But one bad egg shouldn't tar the rest with the same brush.

Agreed Galverion.

I went last year with one of the kids and they were all very welcoming. Even the ticket booth staff were great and friendly considering we are the scum of football

People are very easily impressed on here. The Saddler's Club is basically an old village hall serving standard football ground food and reasonably priced, but average beer. Really don't get the fuss at all. Nice big place for supporters to gather in, but it's no better or worse than your average pub. Honestly prefer the Red Dot.

I wonder if God has managed to create anything on this earth that you would admit to liking.

As I said, yes it is rough and ready...but how many other grounds can you think of where a facility is so close to the ground and allows home and away fans in ? Too many places all we see are "home only" and "away only" pubs.

Is great for Walsall fans too...I can imagine the place is packed when there is a World Cup game with England in.

I've posted positive things recently, such as the Elliott Ward thread praising him. I haven't criticised the new regime at all, unlike others.

I'm sure you were voted the most pessimistic poster on here last season too?!
