Yep, I agree, the one time we appoint an experienced manager, who knew the league and how to get out of it, did exactly that, got us promoted

It might not have been like watching City or Arsenal but he got the job done

Somehow. We were pretty terrible that season, which sounds odd because we got promoted but the football was so poor and we did out best to throw away auto's too. Didn't we give FGR like 2 chances to snatch 3rd place and they had 2 easy games but somehow also managed to screw it up?

Never been so bored watching a promotion season and his tenure in League 1 was dire. Not a manager I'd want back.

I generally agree, it was absolutely turgid at times but that doesn't mean I have ill feelings toward him. When things were going out way into January we had Healey firing, JMT fit etc, once all that changed it got more difficult. We got there in the end so I'm grateful for that.

As for Martin, it's bizarre how quickly its gone south because just a few months ago he was strong favourite for a host of better jobs. Clubs a basket case but he isn't helping himself.

Tisdale was dire. We barely scrapped promotion with a squad far too good for league 2. I firmly believe countless other managers would have had us running away with the title. For god sake look at some of the players we had in that team. Aneke, Healy, Gilbey, Britton, Nicholls, Houghton etc. Quite frankly he was lucky not to be found out sooner. He was terrible at Bristol Rovers and Stevenage aswell and even Exeter improved after he left.

He chose two very weird jobs I'll grant you.. brizzle, was a personal one for him being a boyhood fan so I perhaps get it but Stevenage was a weird one for me..

It did annoy me for a lot of that L2 season that we clearly had the ability to batter sides and just chose not to. A lot of his decision making in games was stubborn and frankly crazy, I remember Swindon away when we drew 1-1 with a stoppage time equaliser which was effectively the last touch of the game, Robbie Simpson was blowing and needed to go off and he didn't make one sub, didn't like 'game management' which I felt cost us a few games. Swindon, Lincoln, Bury etc. Just from memory.

But what he did have was a good dressing room, very good man management skills and a squad of players who were playing for the shirt after a few years of dross and disinterest. It wasn't perfect and we could've been better but we didn't have a devine right to walk away with promotion, look at how many sides struggle to come back uo instantly. We could've slid down the League Two table but instead he brought stability to the squad and the club overall and I'll always be grateful for that.

Agree with this. I sort of feel the same about Manning in L1 last season too actually.

There is something to this. I didn’t want Manning dismissed (to save money for January transfers*), but I was also convinced a more experienced manager would have led us to automatic promotion last season. Whether he would’ve have enough to keep us up if we had, I’m doubtful.

* I know the argument that Manning would not have attracted enough decent players - I was [one of] the first to say so I believe - but I am equally doubtful any manager would make that much difference with this squad. They either have it in them or they don’t. Nor am I writing them off. Let’s see what March brings.

Tisdale-ball was awful. I remember going away to Colchester and losing 2-0 to a poor side towards the end of the season. We went up mostly because teams around us also fucked up. He also had a better squad than we do at the moment.

Why on earth would we want the only manager that's got us in The Championship back.
