Again, I need to say as in the title. I’m not saying promotion this season. I am saying he will never win us promotion. That means in any season. Next season and beyond. Russel Martin will not get MK Dons to the championship.

I think you might be right. But only because I can see us just missing out on promotion next year, and then Martin getting the Norwich job when they get relegated from the Prem again.
Hopefully though the foundations will be in place, and Williams might even be persuaded to stay

Martin won’t be going anywhere until he has a Promotion on his CV. That’s the one thing that keeps you employed in this game. Even then, as far as Norwich are concerned, they’d need see him be just as effective a manager in The Championship before he’d even be on their radar.

He’ll be the longest serving manager in football then

I really enjoy the way we play football but I am not convinced it will work in this league. We would have a better view if we hadnt messed up so many times by giving away soft goals, but are they always going to be part of the way we play. Time will tell, but its happening way to often still.

But one thing is for sure I dont miss the standard league 1 goal kick aimed at 24 players stood with yards of the half way line on one side of the pitch with Lewie is trying to head it on.

Bless Dave. At least 40% of those kicks went over Lewie's head...

40% that went over his head. Probably another 40% that didnt even make it that far and went out for a throw. Passing it out of the back makes sense some of the time, but as Tuesday showed we dont have a scooby on how to combat a player on each CB and credit to Surman (I know, giving him credit is a dangerous game) at least he went back and tried to break that up. Not too sure if he was told to or just did it off his own back, but at least he tried to help.

I do. Those were the days..... ;)
I'm sure we won more games then.

I could hardly believe my eyes when I opened up this thread and have swiftly come to the conclusion that BCS must be suffering the mental effects of being forced to watch The Dons since the age of 8.
The way Martin is asking his players to play is extremely demanding and may well be beyond the capabilities of League one players. Only time will tell on that one.
But surely anyone can see that this season is work in progress and what is needed is a bit of patience not some ludicrous headline like this.
It may well be that Martin's approach is ultimately unsuccessful but for goodness sake give the guy a break and at least make an attempt understand what he is trying to do rather than coming out with this kind of knee jerk reaction.
PS: I am not a progressive youngster like BCS but an Old Timer fast approaching 80.
Nevertheless I have never ever uttered sentences such as "Get rid of it" or " Stop fannying/pussy footing around" and am not going to change the habits of a lifetime now.
Am I right or wrong. In the words of Herbert Asquith (1910)
"We had better wait and see"

I think you are right. Essentially we have a manager who is better in his ideas and philosophy than his players can achieve. He is bringimg players who are better suited but that'll (a) take time and (b) might be a struggle with what we can afford.

People will knee jerk in their reactions, that's just natural. What you can see is the vast majority of other fans are on board with what Russ is trying to do.

Personally, I'd rather be in the position we are in now. Annoyed that we aren't beating other mid-table teams that we've been in the past few years (struggling against any other L1 team)

A great post.
