I spoke to a Bury fan; the current owner isn't incompetent, he’s an asset stripper. The previous owner was incompetent. I think he wants the EFL to kick Bury out of the Football League, then he won’t have a loss-making business but retains all of the assets and it only cost him a pound.

Apart from the players what have they got?

The stadium.

From Andy Cullen's interview it sounds like the club are exploring every option including asking the EFL for clarification on any precedent for cancelled fixtures e.g. the possibility of points being awarded to us.

On one hand I sympathise with Bury fans - it's clearly not their fault and all to do with their owner, but at the same time we've come out of this as losers too (albeit with far smaller consequences) and so should have some kind of recompense.

This independent commission sounds like the 3 man.

We may get points and promotion.

i don’t really see how this can be anything other than a forfeit. otherwise, while i sympathize with bury’s predicament and hope everything works out for them, you’re essentially allowing a team to push a match back to a date that’s clearly advantageous to them (e.g. when they have their squad in order).

i guess a decision on that will be made once it’s actually clear that bury can complete the season.

The game will either be rearranged or they’ll be liquidated and it will be a 23 team league. Rightly or wrongly it’s far too early in the season to be thinking about forfeiting because there’s plenty of available ‘matchdays’ remaining.

As I say, the Independent commission mentioned by Andy Cullen will probably determine next steps. I would say forfeit will be one of the options.

If a club fails to arrive for a match for some reason, possibly beyond their control, say weather or breakdown or accident, they get clobbered by the EFL. Even if they are only a bit late.

So how is this different ?

Because the EFL have said they can't play rather than Bury saying they can't.

This! However, the EFL will have egg on their faces if two teams drop out of League 1 (though Bolton's plight looks a little more rosy). That is why they have given them enough rope to hang themselves. But from a lack of any attempt by Bury to sort out their issues Ie: in the EFL release it read to me like nobody had even attempted to contact them from Bury then what choice do they have? Sad, yes. One of the worlds oldest clubs are going to the wall. Unexpected, no. You can't pay Championship wages on a League 2 income

Bury’s re-scheduled winding up hearing is scheduled for 10.30 tomorrow (31 July).
As far as I understand it there is no new buyer lurking in the wings.
Should they be wound up tomorrow and expelled from the EFL there would be no point awarding us any points.
I am guessing the new Friday deadline from the EFL gives them time to act on what comes out of tomorrow and decide if they are going to expel Bury from the EFL, continue to ‘suspend’ matches, or come up with something else.
