Not next season, or the season after. A one trick pony. He has a great squad available to him but he won’t get above mid table as he is so reliant on playing one way. A vastly overrated manager who fans like beciase he isn’t Neilson or Tisdale and because fans say he “gets the club”

“tRusT ThE ProCeSS”

Under Martin we will be a club with nice players and a “pretty” style that never goes anywhere. People will say “well we play football the right way” and will be happy with mediocrity. That’s all we will ever have under Martin. Mediocrity.

100% this.

Well never go up if we don't have a plan B for when A isn't working.

I thought the same about Karl Robinson. He was also a one trick pony.

Realistically this is a transition season. As I said before we only need a few points and we’re safe. Next season is the one to look at for promotion challenges, this one we may have just slightly too excited a bit early

If anyone says anything about the fact that we had 79% possession too my head will explode. Possession means nothing. Even more so when you lose. If you say “we played better and deserved more” I will just say ok, but Gillingham won.

I’d rather have 5% possession and win than majority possession and lose.

Possession means nothing!!!

At least half that 79% was the ball at Fisher's feet on a leisurely stroll towards halfway . Followed by the usual slow short pass to a player who is immediately tackled.

This was not a point lost, it was three points thrown away.

I'd stop watching if we had 5% possession every game.

We've got to realise where we've come from. Promoted from L2 and relegation candidates after that. Sold out best 2 players and managed to get some nice shiny new ones. They are learning a new system and style.
Why do we think we are getting promoted?

I’m talking about promotion next season not this one

And his style required a ridiculous amount of players who were far too good for this level for us to scrape promotion. This style does not work with league one players. Robinson didn’t have league one players.

What’s the panic to get promoted?

I’m quite enjoying mid table mediocrity, just for once not worrying about a relegation battle, we’re improving slowly and will continue to do so, there is no desperation to go up, we’re not ready or at that level yet

I hope you enjoy mid-table mediocrity for however long Martin is in charge as that is all you will get

The problem is, is that next season is likely to be a rebuild as well. We’ve convinced a number of top quality players to come here, in the event that we’ll get promoted or they can use us as a stepping stone.

Fraser and Jerome will 100% be leaving. As will Grigg and they’ll be a number of clubs who will price us out. Laird will be going back to Utd.

Sorinola is pretty much gone and we can only hope that Surman is leaving too.

We’ll need to recruit and replace heavily.

Wouldn't say Fraser is 100% leaving. It'll take a fair bit of money to get him out and I don't think we'd budge at small money. And I don't think many clubs in this League or even above will be spending big to get him when he could be available next season on a free.

Absolutely this. It is absolutely fine to be critical of individual mistakes and results, but equally it is important to contextualise, reassess expectations and realise how enjoyable some of this football we are playing is at times. Of course I want to be seeing more wins, don't we all, but this is a heck of a lot more enjoyable that the dross we had seen for the previous 4 years or so.
