This was my thought too. A big idea behind signing him was due to his apparently distribution. We barely saw it in 5 months. But if this was the reason and MW truly believed it, I can sort of see why he'd put him in the XI. The problem was he hasn't been that good at playing out and fans don't like him, he was never going to be backed.

Completely agree with Alby’s view that it would have been for footballing reasons. I’ll also add that Kelly’s propensity to launch it when under no real pressure in the first leg would have earned him a huge black mark in MW’s eyes.

Also, I really wouldn’t be surprised if Marschall is back with us next season.

The whole thing was all the more galling as at the other end Addai was giving a masterclass in how it should be done.

A key reason that MW even considered bringing him back was the form of Kelly, people seem to ignore that we let in more goals with him behind the defence than anyone else, there seems to be this narrative that the defence were more comfortable with Kelly behind them. Mind you perhaps they were as he was as dreadful as they were, maybe Marschall expected them to do some basic defending :o
The whole thing was a shit show most of the season and now we have chance to reset and hopefully put in place a decent defence and keeper.

How to destroy what little fan base we have left. He was a bad experiment at a time we didn't need to take a risk. I for one would be fucking livid if that man set foot on our pitch again.

If Mike Williamson's knowledge on goalkeepers goes no further than a truly awfully performing 21 year old who has no green flags - then he deserves to be sacked. If Sweeting etc had ANYTHING about them they'd refuse entering into discussions on that possibility

Well, thank you for saying it. The Director of Football seems to have gotten away with a lot with this quite frankly poor January window. The fact that he let Williamson sign 3 former Gateshead players all of differing quality (from ok to appalling) along with Bate (who I still don't get why people spaff over him, he runs and runs yes but has done very little in terms of end product) and an 18 year old dead line day desperation move (who ironically has looked the better of the 5) it just seems that the inmate was allowed to run the asylum and I don't know why. Did he question the need for a keeper? Did he due his own due diligence on Marschall? Does he have a clue what his job actually is? Does Williamson need to be sacked. No. Course not. Do you trust Williamson and Sweeting with the biggest rebuild job ever, even bigger than two seasons ago. I don't. I said jobs for the boys and I really do mean that. I mean Sweeting wanted to resign this time last year. Winkelman insisted he stayed. What does that tell you about the way the club is run.

It took Addai three seasons to get it right with Crawley. This is the first season he has been truly great. But when you are teflon you are unstoppable and really he has all the confidence in the world that he can control a 40 yard back pass and play it out with ease whilst skinning one of our players in the process but it took work to get to that point. Work I don't think our club would even know how to do. That's the difference. I mean do we even have a GK coach? I don't even know if Erbil Bozkurt is still with us. There is nothing on the website under the who's who section. I mean did he leave when Alexander was sacked? I mean if we don't have one WTF are we playing at unless Chris Bell is doing it. I never get there early enough and never really cared enough to pay attention, but does anyone know? It might play a big part in the shambles that are keepers at our club.

Thank god. I thought that would be insane not to have a keeping coach.
