OK, cards on table I'm a pretty big fan.
If you had to name the top ten 'opening riffs' (or whatever) of all time then a decent number would most likely be The Stones.
Last night's interview was quite informative and FFS let's not forget these guys are 80 years old (OK Ron Wood is a mere 76) but there was a definite 'Spinal Tap' flavour on several occasions particularly with Jagger's responses. Probably intentionally.

I thought Keef looked a bit like one of those creatures from 'Hell Raiser' - but no doubt he'd take that as a complement.
So f what? I doubt I'll be alive at 80 never mind doing anything creative.

The new single/video is very carefully crafted but again so what?

I thought I'd seen the best of them on the Steel Wheels tour in '86.....but saw 'em in Coventry in 2018. Just as good!

Did you read that George Melley took the Michael out of Mick Jagger? George told Mick that he wasn't expecting so many wrinkles. Mick said they weren't wrinkles they were laughter lines. George retorted that surely nothing was that funny.

My all time favourite song is Start Me Up.

They’d be the perfect band if they’d died in a plane crash before recording “Some Girls”.

But then we wouldn't have Start Me Up or Worried About You.

I love them, obviously, as I genuinely listen to Start Me Up at least once a week. I adore that song. It’s another moment in time for me. I’m instantly transported back to my friend’s living room in the early 80’s, watching Sir Mick on her telly with that knowing smirk. Then Keef with that pull of his shoulders. Before Ronnie appears with the most bumfluff moustache a fully grown man has ever sported. There’s a part in this song, 2:45mins in where Mick does the most sublime vocal ever. It’s that part that gets me. Every time. I’ve lived with this song longer than I’ve lived with The Current Mrs Gers.

The early 70’s version with Mick Taylor are the version you should like. Listen to Exile On Main Street. Once you have, then you’re done. You don’t really need any more. They looked amazing. They were playing out of their skins, And released a triumvirate of albums that folk will still be listening to in 100 years time.

Speaking of The Current Mrs Gers, we were talking about them this morning. I was watching the Start Me Up video. Mick was 40 when that was made. He’s 80 now, and we both agreed that he really doesn't look much different.

The world’s greatest song…

That is indeed one of the riffs I had in mind in the post.

Honkey Tonk Women
Brown Sugar)
