I disagree. In his earlier years he had a great voice. The stuff on Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy, Honky Château, "Elton John", and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road had sensational vocals

Not really a fan of all his stuff but GYBR was a really good album - with a really good/full range of vocals. (IMHO)
I've still got it on vinyl....somewhere......
