Pulp bassist Steve Mackey has died aged only 56. RIP.

Ridiculously young age to die, read he had been in hospital for three months, but nothing so far about cause of death

Once again, dreadful news.

I always thought he was the coolest member of Pulp (admittedly not a difficult task), but I had no idea of his post Pulp music biz’ activities. Reading his obit’ in The Guardian this morning it turns out he was behind Florence + The Machine. Writing songs and producing some stuff on her debut album. He was also involved with Daft Punk, The Horrors, Arcade Fire, MIA, amongst others.

He told Pulp that he wasn’t interested in rejoining for this summer’s reunion as he was now a successful photographer, working with Miu Miu, Armani, Moncler Saint Laurent and Gucci.

Just goes to show that it’s always the quiet ones.
