A great looking video that showcases what could be done in a studio without using any expensive props (great lighting, cardboard cut-outs, graphics, fluorescent light tubes, bikes & wheels etc.), and a great tune too.

Grace Jones - Private Life (1980)

Now, I know this is supposed to be videos judged separately from the music but this one probably blurs that line. Would I enjoy the video if the song wasn't so damn good? Who knows (and, frankly, who cares!). The song is a Pretenders cover, with a witty and cutting Chrissie Hynde lyric. The music has Sly and Robbie at their best and Jones in the glacial, imperial form of her life.

The video is simply Jones's stunning, architectural face, a mask, a red hood, and some random background lights. It's beyond minimal. And it's as cool as fuck.
