Suede - Animal Nitrate

When I used to work in social housing in West London, this was the sort of place I used to have to go to. This video perfectly captures the gritty reality of living in a highrise. It’s not great. The opening, the rain soaked walkways, the woman using the rubbish chute, all extremely accurate. A horrible Proustian rush.

The Rolling Stones - Start Me Up

This is my favourite song, but unfortunately the video is utterly appalling. However, fast forward to 29 seconds in when Keef makes his first appearance. Cool as fuck then, cool as fuck now. Jagger is as camp as a row of boy scouts. Ronnie would appear to be just running around all over the place, all the while trying to keep a straight face, and at one point Bill Wyman and Charlie exchange a knowing smirk. It’s a fantastic piece of high camp, and I reckon the budget must’ve stretched to at least a couple of hundred quid. It’s one of those things that I watch regularly. Sort of so bad it’s good.
