Not really a gig but I'm off to the ballet tonight at MK theatre. Never seen a ballet before so not sure if I'll like it or not.

We went to The Royal Ballet years ago. Must be over 30 years, didn't think it would be my thing, but from what I can remember it was brilliant.

Saw Tim Vine last Tuesday at the theatre.
It won't surprise anyone on here to know I thought it was excellent....

Mary Beard at the Cambridge Corn Exchange last night.

She rocked.

No encore though.

Did she play the classic "Roman" stuff, or was it all off the new album?

I hate it when they won't play the hits...

First half new album, second half the hits

A fair balance. You don't feel cheated with a set list like that.

Tony Momrelle tonight at The Stables

I'd not heard of him before - Mrs Soze made me go. And I'm so glad she did. Classic 80s soul/jazz funk style music with some (really good!) originals, some great covers and a few Christmas songs thrown in for good measure. The band (blistering lead guitar, tight-ass bass, funky drummer and jazzy keyboards) were excellent. And yer man Tony's voice is epic. I got a chance to have a few words with him and I said to him he sounds a bit like Donny Hathaway (if you knew me you'd know that's a massive compliment from me!) and he replied that Donny (and Stevie W) are big influences on him. By the end, he had us all up dancing, and, given the demographic of The Stables (i.e. fucking old) that was amazing. Overall, a really great night out.

Another plus - it meant I missed the crap performance against B&HA U21. Yay me!

Saw T-Rextacy at The Stables last night. If you like Bolan needless to say you'd like this. They really are very good. basically the same set as last year but WTF.
There was a distinct bias towards the upper end of the age spectrum.
I tapped my foot enthusiastically - rather than danced because of the arthritis. :(
