So, this cropped up on a group chat last night and sparked a lively debate.

England to win tomorrow or Dons to be promoted in May?

Damn. This is a tough one. If you asked me this question 2-3 years ago I'd have been Dons 100%. I was never really that into England, growing up with the disappointing 'golden generation' before the era of Man United subs (I'm thinking Young, Cleverley, Jones etc.) filling up the squad there was very little to celebrate. Not just the results but the attitude and style of play. There has been something really exciting brewing in the England camp over the last few years and I am all for it.

I think I'd say England. Dons will get promoted (and relegated) many times in my life time and whilst I'd absolutely love it to be next season under Russ, the likelihood of England winning a major tournament is very slim.

Yeah, not easy, and the whats app responses were mixed, to say the least! Ranging from “Has to be England, right?” to “I always said I’d rather Dons win a corner rather than England win a tournament, Would be hypocritical to change that view now”

Haha, yeah it is tough. For me the doom and gloom on this forum a few months into the Championship will always be a humbling reminder how football is so fluid and that reaching the Championship is not and never will be a final destination. As I said, I expect many promotions for Dons in both the near and distant future, but I feel like this is a once in a generation/lifetime chance for England so that is how I will justify being country over club in this instance.

Tough.

The struggle to progress is relentless. This league is becoming more and more competitive each season.

The most euphoric (and anxious) I've ever felt watching football was that final day promotion in 14/15. That might change tomorrow night though!

England winning a major tournament is also a once in a lifetime thing and would likely have knock on effects for generations of footballers coming through.

I'm leaning towards promotion.

England in qualifying almost seems a formality and it only really becomes exciting in major tournaments whereas following MK week in week out is a constant battle to progress.

I think a decent barometer would be how hard you celebrate it. If it (an England tournament victory) had happened during Euro 96 I’d have probably been off work for a few days at least, I’ll probably just have a mild hangover on Monday if England win now though.

Dons sealing promotion has resulted in the milk train back from Bletchley to Euston twice now.
