I think tonight showed pretty much everything wrong with this current England team under Southgate. Yes the team has come along way and we were missing a few players. There's been two major problems under Southgate, not being able to truly take advantage when on top and not being able to change a game. First half was the former, second half was the katter. The players are reasonably disciplined (except TAA who seemed lost and lazy yet again) but lacked any real drive, swagger or belief to take it to a pretty poor team..
When level or in the lead the team are wear shackles, when the team are behind the tempo barely changes. Southgate did wonders between 2018-2021, but with this squad and their experience they should be way ahead of where they are.
I go through stages of thinking this, but then I remind myself of how successful Southgate has been compared to his predecessors. We can argue that he's got a great squad, which he does, but we've had some unbelievable squads over the years and failed miserably.
Southgate's brought us much closer to success than any of them and I still hold faith that we'll win something soon.
