Will you watch the Saudi Pro League?

Do you think it's good for football?

It’s probably not good for European football. It would be a bit selfish of us to condemn it because it takes players from our leagues.

Would so watch it? Maybe. I doubt the quality will be anywhere near our top leagues for some time, so probably not yet,

Fair answer.

Do you hope it succeeds then? Because with the money they have, an argument could be made that they could have a competitive League to watch in ten years or so...

Selfishly, I hope it doesn’t. If it succeeds, it would probably dilute the quality of our leagues.

Does it matter if its good to watch?

What’s your view

I think it's a shambles, but it can't be stopped until FFPP really cranks down on it - I hope it's a flash in the pan like China and America ,circa 1980s was - but I can't see it when it's state run.

I fear for longevity and plans - I'd not be surprised to see them buy UEFA or try to buy places in the Champions League in the next 10-15 years.

I doubt it’s under the auspices of FFPP

Why?

I don’t know for sure, but I’d be surprised if it applies to their league.

That's the point I'm making, it doesn't apply to their League so until it does can there not be an argument that they can spend all they can to fast track a competitive and entertaining League?
If FIFA clamp down on them and introduce FFP to their system it'd affect it massively, but whilst it isn't is there not a chance it can be competitive and entertaining?

It can be entertaining if they have the best players.

Which is the original question, if that's the case will you watch it?

Probably. If it has the best players, and it’s entertaining, I’m sure I would. I like football.

But it’s still not in the UK and not as convenient. I watch some Spanish football, for example, but not that much.

I can't envisage FIFA clamping down though. Both FIFA and UEFA have been all about the money for a long time, a big reason why the latter has FFP is to protect the established clubs who generate massive revenue streams. Having a more open competition with projects like Malaga or Anzhi Makhachkala, and to an extent City for a while, potentially jeopardise that. FIFA are desperate for the Club World Cup to be bigger than the Champions League, this is the potential gateway and opportunity for this to happen. It probably will also open the door to more Middle Eastern World Cups as well. I bet FIFA love it.
