You have to say the World Cup is throwing up some results, Saudi Arabia beating Argentina, now Japan turning over Germany.

Yes, aside from the human rights and the environmental waste of resources, the football upsets have been good.

I've managed to watch most of every game either at home or whilst working in a bar showing it and I've actually really enjoyed the World Cup. The small crowds and early departures as well as the lack of footage of the fans make it a quite weird visual for an international tournament. Spain have looked superb, both ourselves and France got the job done with some style and there has been some nice underdog stories so far.

I think it is great seeing so much coverage about the issues and regime in Qatar but I'm very much intrigued if the media will comment on social issues during the 2026 World Cup, such as the American illegal invasions, their contributions to the genocide in Yemen by selling arms to Saudi Ararbia , the famine in Afghanistan due to American sanctions, the ungodly amount of political corruption, the wealth gap, the fact they are the second biggest polluter in the world, the recent banning of abortion, the fact thousands are still in prison due to racially discriminatory drug laws in the 90's and so on. Probably not though.

It is also interesting how the media are making this all about Messi, I do wonder if Ronaldo hadn't done that interview if there would be a similar narrative around him and it being a potential fairy tale ending.

Me on the way home from feeding the horses, the game had just kicked off...

"I can't believe they've taken Richarlison and left Firmino at home"
