Thw 2022 Baseball World Series starts tonight :D

It's all live on BT Sport, and/or online at mlb.com & ESPN radio.

Full schedule, live scores, previews & reports are here: https://www.mlb.com/postseason
Some coverage is also available on the BBC Sport website too: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/baseball

The Houston Astros are favourites this year, winning 19 more games than the Philadelphia Phillies in the regular season, making this the second-largest World Series matchup win disparity, of all-time.
But can the underdog Phillies continue to beat everyone they face this post-season, and win the trophy in their first trip to the World Series since 2009?

Game 1 is crucial - 21 out of the last 25 teams to win game 1 (in the best-of-7-games series), have gone on to be crowned World Series champions.

A great comeback by the Phillies to snatch the opening game 6-5, so the Astros have to repeat last years script.

Nice to see their raft of celebrity fans left speechless

I was at one of the Aaron Judge games a few weeks back against Oreoles where he could have broke the home run record, if it wasn't a potentially historic game I'd have left hours before.

I love the idea of baseball, but I hate it. I've been to a Mariners vs Astros game before, and I was a lot drunker, but I couldn't believe how little they hit the ball or even get to a base!

Nice one - would have been great of he'd beaten the AL home run record while you were there.

Think of baseball the other way round to cricket.
In cricket they score hundreds of runs off bowlers as it's far easier to hit the ball, and an opening bowler taking 5 wickets for 100+ runs would have had a very good game.

In baseball they score only a few runs per game off pitchers as it's so much harder to hit the ball, and a starting pitcher has had a very good game if they complete at least six innings while allowing the opposing team to score no more than three runs from their pitches.
A perfect game, is when a pitcher completes nine innings with a shutout, and no-one at all scores, hits, or even gets on base. It's happened only 21 times in over 120 years.

In contrast, I can't believe how often they do manage to hit the ball & get on base in baseball

Game 3, and Philadelphia beat Houston, as the Phillies became the first team to hit three home runs inside the first two innings of a World Series game.
The Houston pitcher also became the first pitcher, not just in World Series history but in post-season history too, to allow 5 home runs in a game...

The Game 3 winner when the series was tied 1-1, has also gone on to win 41 of last 59 World Series... (69.5%)

Game 4 is tonight. :D

This is turning into a memorable World Series.
After being spanked 7-0 and literally hit out of the park five times in game 3, the Houston pitchers combined to deliver the first no-hitter win in World Series history, and beat Philadelphia 5-0.

Game 4 reports & highlights here:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/baseball/63494689
https://www.mlb.com/gameday/astros-vs-p ... ame=715721

In all the previous best of 7 game series that were level at 2-2 like this one is now, whoever won Game 5 to go 3-2 up, went on to win the series overall on 45 out of 64 occasions (70%).
Game 5 is tonight :-D

So while the first four games all had one team taking a five-run lead, Game 5 turned into a nailbiter as Houston hung on to edge it 3-2.
31 of 47 (65.9%) previous Game 5 winners, have gone on to win the World Series.
