Rangers' most successful manager, Walter Smith, has sadly passed away aged only 73. He'd been ill for the last year, but still comes as a shock.
I know I'm biased, but he'll be missed, both at Rangers obviously, but in football in general.
I giant of a man, who didn't suffer fools, but was generally thought of as both a great footballing man, and a nice, and more importantly, courteous fella. And a sense of humour dryer than the Sahara.
He's thought of as being one of the driving forces behind Rangers moving away from the sectarian nonsense that plagued them for decades. While assistant to Souness, he worked behind the scenes to sign Mo Johnson, Rangers' first catholic signing. He was great friends with Celtic manager Tommy Burns, and was one of the pallbearers at Burns' funeral.
The story of him signing Gazza is well worth seeking out. As you can imagine, it wasn't straight forward.
He had two stints at Rangers, but was also manager of Everton, and the Scottish national team. He also had a short spell as his great friend Ferguson's assistant at Man United.
It's an incredibly sad day for Rangers fans
