With a few exceptions, our batting line up just isn't good enough at the moment. We can't always rely on Cook, Root and Stokes to get us out of trouble when the others in the top order keep failing. I see nothing in that squad that will solve those problems.

Bowling should be our strength, but we'll have to see if our bowlers are as effective in Australia as they are in English conditions and with the Kookaburra ball. Usually we find that Anderson and Broad aren't such a threat down under as they are at home, so we might be more reliant on Stokes, Woakes, etc. Mason Crane seems an odd choice too with so little experience.

We have some gaps but we have some strengths too - Moeen (with both bat and ball) being one of them. I think we may do better against the Aussies than many fear.

Who is obviously missing? Can't think of anyone, apart from possibly sicknote Wood.
So we've probably got the best available.
