Whichever squad you select, we’re going to have a strong first eleven.

As long as our key players stay fit, I don’t see how we won’t win this.

Remember Denmark. Favourites are not always successful.

Funny looking back at this thread, including mine.

One thing that for years that I got wrong, as did many fans and managers, was see the England team as a 'player of the month' award when giving out caps as well as a a shorter term vision. Whilst Southgate has made mistakes and has got a few things wrong, he's largely been consistent with his outlook. A strong foundation whilst keeping a core squad together, complimenting that regular squad with emerging talent who are proving themselves no matter who their domestic club are. We have seen so many 1-2 cap players under Capello/Eriksson/Hodgson/McLaren as well as keeping many players around for too long without looking to the future, hopefully they days are gone. The debuts are largely to younger players now, who play regularly and have been involved in the youth set ups. Whilst some players are not playing as regularly or well for their clubs, he's loyal to those who have done him no wrong but also been comfortable to drop former regulars who are clearly not the standard right now, Dele, Dier, Sancho and Rashford spring to mind. The squad selection, may infuriate odd people, has largely had a consistent theme which I appreciate. I also can't believe I didn't put Reece James in the 23 man squad, to me he is now our best full back.
